Ian Marshall

Ian Marshall is a former Senator in Seanad Éireann. He was elected to the Agricultural Panel at a by-election in April 2018 as an Independent Senator and sat on the Joint Oireachtas Committee for Climate Change and Environment, the Committee for the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union and the Joint Committee for Rural and Community Development.

He works at the Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) in Queens University Belfast as a Business Development Manager linking business to education and research partners across Europe with a consumer centric approach to the agri-food industry.

Ian was born in South Armagh in 1968. He was educated at The Royal School Armagh and attended Greenmount Agricultural College before returning to the family farm - a business he manages today in partnership with his son. He completed an M.Sc. in Agri-Food Business Development at Ulster University.

He has a comprehensive knowledge of the agri-food industry from farm to fork as a former President of the Ulster Farmers Union and a member of the Agri-Food Strategy Board in Northern Ireland. In addition, he works extensively on north-south politics building bridges and uniting people north south, east, and west.
